I asked OpenAI’s SearchGPT for advice on interior design styles that bring on-trend Fall vibes to your home. From biophilic design to the clever Unexpected Red Theory, how did this Google Search competitor in training do?

It’s clear from the response I received that SearchGPT envisions the upcoming Fall interior design style as all about creating warm, inviting, and nature-inspired spaces with a mix of modern and vintage elements. And you know what? I’m absolutely feeling this. But I’m also a little conflicted because I just recently wrote about Japandi being my cool-weather vibe this year, and now SearchGPT’s suggested interior design elements have me reconsider a few things.
Fall Interior Design Style Elements According to AI
What’s trending in Autumn/Fall urban interior design? It depends on who you ask, right? Well, I did just that and asked OpenAI’s SearchGPT prototype. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the AI’s response. Instead of the endless list of random opinions and posts that we’re all used to from legacy search engines, SearchGPT responded with a cohesively curated list of interior design features that I can easily imagine coming together to create a thoughtfully designed living space. Time will tell if OpenAI has something revolutionary in the works with this solution, but I can certainly see myself using it if it’s released and refined over time.
The Results Are In: SearchGPT Has Solid Style
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting anything interesting or compelling when I hit enter after typing my interior design question into SearchGPT’s text input field. Since it’s a protype, the UI is basic and there aren’t many visual design elements to speak of. But, to my surprise, once the results were returned to me—in a fraction of a second, I should add—I found myself immediately drawn in, trying my best to be skeptical of how the design elements could come together to create a well-designed and cohesive living space. However, as I continued down the list, I began to realize that this was no random collection of web-crawled content. Far from it. The response I received was a carefully curated collection of interior design elements, answering my question with insightful detail.
Here’s exactly what SearchGPT suggested I consider for my Fall interior design trend exploration:
Earth Tones and Warm Neutrals
Colors like sand, mushroom, camel, terracotta, copper, oatmeal, and muted greens are popular. They add warmth and a cozy feel to any space.
Curved Silhouettes
Curved furniture, such as sofas, chairs, and tables, is making a comeback. These pieces add a soft, nature-inspired aesthetic to rooms.
Mixed Textures and Fabrics
Mixing different textures and fabrics creates a cozy, inviting feel. This includes using velvet, leather, and performance fabrics for furniture and accessories.
Biophilic Design
Bringing the outdoors inside is a key trend. This includes using indoor plants, living green walls, natural materials like stone and wood, and large windows to maximize natural light.
Artisanal and Handmade Decor
Handmade items like antique brass candlesticks, textured trays, and artisanal table decor are popular. They add a personal, thoughtful touch to spaces.
Jewel Tones and Botanicals
Pairing seasonal botanicals with rich jewel tones creates a vibrant fall look. This includes using colors like burgundy, deep blues, and greens.
Cozy Accessories
Items like candle warmer lamps, cozy thermal blankets, throw pillow covers, and decorative candle lanterns add a seasonal touch to homes.
Vintage Decor
Vintage trends include using natural materials like rattan, wicker, and cane furniture. Rich brown tones and wood such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood are also making a comeback.
Unexpected Red Theory
Incorporating red-colored home accessories can enhance interior design by adding a bold, attention-grabbing element.
Sage Green Accents
Sage green is a top home decor trend. It can be introduced through items like throw pillow covers, wall art prints, accent lamps, runner rugs, and storage baskets.
Not bad for an AI system prototype, right? The results also included source references which I thought was a considerate touch, and the UI became a bit more interesting when the results were returned because of the inclusion of thumbnail images related to the linked sources—another nice touch.
One thing that really stood out for me in the response was the inclusion of Unexpected Red Theory. This was a clear sign that the design elements were coordinated and intended to collectively represent a cohesive experience. Very impressive.
Did AI Just Create a Cozy Interior Design Style?
I don’t know about you, but “Modern Harvest” isn’t on my interior design style radar—or at least it wasn’t before now.
I should note that SearchGPT didn’t come up with the “Modern Harvest” designation. Credit for that goes to its older and more familiar sibling, ChatGPT. I was so impressed with SearchGPT’s curated response that I figured, why not take things a little further and see if we could perhaps name the style? So, I grabbed the response and dropped it into a new GPT-4o chat session, framing it as an interior design concept that I was working on. And just like that, I was presented with two suggestions: “Modern Harvest” and “Warm Naturals”. The choice was obvious to me.
If Modern Harvest suddenly becomes the next viral interior design trend, remember this moment! Not necessarily because you heard about it here first (though…you did!), but because we may have entered a new era where a bit of AI-assisted trend hunting and collaborative concept chatting bring creating novel interior design concepts within everyone’s reach.
