Paola Idrontino‘s massive textile sculpture “Evanescent” depicts the scourge of coral bleaching in the world’s oceans, brought on by climate change. The work, which took years to complete, was recently on display at Museu del Disseny de Barcelona. Idrontino’s practice includes textiles, wearable art, and photography.
“After setting up my sculpture I was absolutely amazed,” the artist says, in a post about the work. “I worked on this piece for two years and I had never seen it finally assembled in this beautiful big space up until this moment. I kept working on it in different pieces, part by part, almost like a puzzle, I was running out of space at home and I didn’t know how it would fit through the door. Well the biggest part is still a challenge to get out of the room, I need at least 4 people and remove the door.”
